2 Chronicles 9:1

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

“And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.”

Context:To understand the significance of this verse, it’s important to consider the context. In the preceding chapters, we read about King Solomon’s reign and the prosperity and wisdom bestowed upon him by God. Solomon’s wisdom and wealth became renowned, reaching the ears of the queen of Sheba. Sheba was a kingdom located in present-day Ethiopia or Yemen, known for its trade and wealth.

The Queen of Sheba’s Visit:In response to hearing about Solomon’s fame, the queen of Sheba embarked on a journey to Jerusalem. She brought with her a great company, camels carrying spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. Her purpose was to “prove” Solomon with hard questions, likely to test his wisdom and discernment. The queen’s visit demonstrated her desire to witness Solomon’s wisdom firsthand and engage in dialogue with him.

The Significance of the Queen’s Visit:The queen of Sheba’s visit had several implications. Firstly, it highlighted the global reach of Solomon’s reputation. His wisdom and achievements had transcended national boundaries, drawing the attention of rulers and dignitaries from distant lands. Additionally, the queen’s visit symbolized the acknowledgment of Solomon’s wisdom and the affirmation of his reign by a foreign ruler. It was a testimony to the greatness and splendor of Solomon’s kingdom.

The Exchange of Wisdom:When the queen of Sheba arrived in Jerusalem, she communed with Solomon, engaging in a profound conversation. The phrase “she communed with him of all that was in her heart” suggests a deep and meaningful exchange of knowledge, ideas, and wisdom. Both individuals likely shared their insights, experiences, and sought to learn from one another.
