However, in the thirty-sixth year of his reign, Asa faced another challenge. The king of Israel, Baasha, formed an alliance with the king of Syria against Judah. Instead of seeking God's help as he had done before, Asa made a decision without consulting the Lord. He sought assistance from the king of Syria by using treasures from the temple and palace, betraying his earlier faithfulness.
Asa's actions displeased God, and the prophet Hanani confronted him, reminding him of his past reliance on God. As a result of his unfaithfulness, Asa would face wars and conflicts throughout the remainder of his reign.
