2 Chronicles 17:13

Posted on 18 May at 11:37

“And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.”

Context:To understand the significance of this verse, it’s essential to provide some context. 2 Chronicles 17 describes the reign of Jehoshaphat, who became king of Judah after his father Asa. Jehoshaphat was a righteous king who sought the Lord and walked in His commandments. He strengthened the kingdom by promoting the study and observance of God’s law.

Much Business in the Cities:The verse states that Jehoshaphat had much business in the cities of Judah. This indicates that he was actively involved in the administration and governance of his kingdom. As a wise and diligent ruler, he carried out his responsibilities with diligence and care. Jehoshaphat’s attention to the needs of the people and the affairs of the cities demonstrates his commitment to effective leadership.

Men of War and Mighty Men of Valor:The verse also mentions that the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem. This suggests that Jehoshaphat had organized and maintained a strong military force to protect his kingdom. By having courageous and skilled soldiers, he ensured the security and defense of Jerusalem against potential threats.

Application:As we reflect on this verse, we can draw some practical lessons for our lives today:

  • Diligent Leadership:Jehoshaphat’s involvement in the affairs of the cities teaches us the importance of diligent leadership. Whether in our workplaces, families, or communities, we should take our responsibilities seriously and strive to make a positive impact.
  • Spiritual and Secular Balance:Jehoshaphat exemplified a balance between spiritual and secular matters. While he attended to the needs of the cities, he also upheld the worship of God and the study of His law. We can learn from this example and ensure that we maintain a healthy balance between our earthly responsibilities and our spiritual lives.
  • Preparedness and Protection:Jehoshaphat’s focus on maintaining a strong military force emphasizes the importance of being prepared and protected. In our lives, it is crucial to be vigilant and equipped to face challenges and adversities that may come our way. This includes being spiritually prepared through prayer, studying God’s Word, and relying on His strength.
