2 Chronicles 25:26

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

2 Chronicles 25:26 (KJV)

Amaziah was the ninth king of Judah, ruling from about 796 to 767 BC. He followed his father Joash. His reign included military victories over Edom, but also spiritual failures and unwise decisions, as the surrounding chapter shows.

This closing verse points beyond the biblical account to a fuller record. The phrase “the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last” indicates that both the major and minor events of his reign were preserved. The question “are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?” confirms that such records existed and were reliable.

The expression “first and last” stresses that the record was complete, covering the whole of his rule. This verse serves as a transition, closing the story of Amaziah and directing readers to a wider historical source.

The parallel account in 2 Kings 14:18 refers to the same source as “the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.” This shows that the writers of Chronicles and Kings drew from or referenced royal annals, grounding their histories in contemporary records.

This verse reminds us that God’s Word preserves what is necessary for faith and instruction, even though it does not include every detail of a person’s life. It also affirms that all human deeds are recorded and will be accounted for before God. Studying the past helps us learn from both the successes and failures of those who came before us.

Consider how your own life is being written. Every action, decision, and motive is known to God. Because nothing is hidden from Him, we are called to live with integrity and accountability, trusting that His record is true and complete.
