Listen to this article

“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

Psalm 9:10 (KJV) says: “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

Context of Psalm 9: Psalm 9 is a psalm of thanksgiving and praise to God for His righteous judgments and deliverance. It expresses the psalmist’s confidence in God’s faithfulness and protection.

Knowing God’s name: The phrase “know thy name” refers to having an intimate knowledge of who God is. In the Bible, a person’s name often represents their character and attributes. Knowing God’s name goes beyond a mere intellectual understanding; it implies a personal relationship with Him. To know God’s name is to know His nature, His faithfulness, His love, and His power.

Trusting in God: The verse states that those who know God’s name will put their trust in Him. Trust is an essential element of our relationship with God. When we truly know God, we recognize His sovereignty, His wisdom, and His ability to fulfill His promises. Trusting in God means relying on Him, surrendering our worries and anxieties to Him, and believing that He is in control.

God’s faithfulness: The psalmist affirms that the Lord does not forsake those who seek Him. God’s faithfulness is a recurring theme in the Bible. Throughout history, God has proven Himself to be faithful to His people. He never abandons those who sincerely seek Him. This promise gives us assurance that we can rely on God’s presence and provision in every aspect of our lives.

Application: Psalm 9:10 encourages us to deepen our knowledge of God and cultivate a strong relationship with Him. The more we know God and experience His faithfulness, the more we will trust Him in every circumstance. We can seek God through prayer, reading His Word, and participating in a community of believers. As we seek Him with our whole heart, we can rest in the assurance that He will never forsake us.

  • In conclusion, Psalm 9:10 emphasizes the importance of knowing God’s name, which represents His character and attributes. When we truly know Him, we can place our trust in Him and experience His faithfulness. This verse encourages us to deepen our relationship with God and seek Him with our whole heart, knowing that He will never abandon us.
