Psalms 21:7

Posted on 18 May at 15:17

“For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.”

Psalm 21:7 (KJV) says: “For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.”

Context of the Psalm:

Psalm 21 is a psalm of David, written to praise and thank God for His blessings and victories. It is a celebration of the king’s triumphs, which are seen as a result of God’s favour and mercy. The psalm acknowledges God as the true source of strength and security.

Trust in the LORD:

The verse begins by highlighting the king’s trust in the LORD. Trusting in the Lord is an act of placing complete confidence and reliance on Him. The king acknowledges that his confidence is not in his own abilities or achievements but in God. This trust is a fundamental aspect of a godly life, as it demonstrates our dependence on God and recognises His sovereignty.

Through the mercy of the most High:

The psalmist acknowledges that the king’s stability and success come through the mercy of the most High. Mercy refers to God’s compassionate and loving kindness toward His people, despite their unworthiness. It is through God’s mercy that the king receives blessings, protection, and victory. This emphasises the importance of recognising God’s grace and favour as the ultimate reason for any accomplishments or blessings we experience in life.

Not being moved:

The psalmist assures that due to the king’s trust in the Lord and God’s mercy, he will not be moved. This implies that the king will remain secure, steadfast, and unshaken in the face of challenges, enemies, or trials. The king’s position is secure because it is rooted in God’s faithfulness and steadfast love. Likewise, when we place our trust in the Lord and rely on His mercy, we can find strength and stability that surpasses our circumstances.

Overall, Psalm 21:7 reminds us of the importance of trusting in the Lord and acknowledging His mercy as the foundation of our lives. By recognising God’s sovereignty, grace, and faithfulness, we can find security and steadfastness even in the midst of difficulties. It is a call to place our confidence in God rather than in ourselves and to give Him praise and glory for His blessings and victories in our lives.
