“I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.”

Context: The Book of Psalms is a collection of poetic songs and prayers written by various authors, including King David. Psalm 40 is attributed to David and is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving to God for His deliverance and faithfulness.

The psalmist begins by proclaiming that he has not hidden God’s righteousness within his heart. This indicates that he has not kept God’s righteousness to himself but has openly acknowledged it. It implies a desire to share God’s righteous acts and character with others.

The psalmist testifies to declaring God’s faithfulness and salvation. He acknowledges that God is reliable, trustworthy, and true to His promises. God’s salvation is His deliverance and redemption for His people. The psalmist is actively sharing the message of God’s faithfulness and salvation, likely through his testimony and praise.

The psalmist affirms that he has not concealed God’s lovingkindness and truth from the great congregation. Lovingkindness refers to God’s steadfast love, mercy, and compassion toward His people. Truth refers to God’s faithfulness and His word, which is reliable and true. The psalmist declares that he has openly proclaimed and shared these attributes of God, ensuring that they are known and celebrated by the larger community of believers.
