Psalms 56:3

Listen to this article

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”

Context:Psalm 56 was written by David when he was captured by the Philistines in Gath. David was facing a difficult and fearful situation, and this psalm expresses his trust in God in the midst of his distress.

  • Acknowledging Fear:David begins by acknowledging his fear. Fear is a common human emotion, and even the most courageous people can experience it. It is important to recognize and acknowledge our fears rather than suppressing or denying them.
  • Choosing Trust:Despite his fear, David makes a deliberate choice to trust in God. Trust is an act of faith, believing that God is able to deliver us from our troubles and provide the strength and guidance we need. David’s decision to trust in God is an example for us to follow when we face our own fears and challenges.
  • God as the Object of Trust:David places his trust in God. This shows his confidence in God’s character, faithfulness, and ability to help him. God is reliable, dependable, and worthy of our trust. When we place our trust in God, we are relying on His wisdom, power, and love to see us through difficult times.
  • Trusting God in Every Time:David declares that he will trust in God “what time I am afraid.” This implies that trust in God is not limited to specific circumstances but is a continuous choice. Regardless of the situation, whether in times of fear, uncertainty, or distress, David commits to relying on God.
  • Application:This verse encourages us to trust in God when we face fear and anxiety. It reminds us that we have a loving and powerful God who is with us in our struggles. When we choose to trust in God, we can find peace, strength, and guidance. We can turn to Him in prayer, meditate on His promises, and seek His direction in His Word.
  • Additional Scriptures:Other Bible verses that reinforce the theme of trusting in God include Proverbs 3:5-6, Isaiah 26:3, and Philippians 4:6-7. These verses remind us of the importance of trusting in God and the peace that comes from placing our confidence in Him.
