Listen to this article

“And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.”

Psalm 64:9 (KJV) says: “And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.”

Context:

Psalm 64 is attributed to David and is categorised as a lament or prayer for protection against enemies. In this particular verse, David expresses confidence in God’s righteous judgment and the ultimate triumph of His work.

Fear and Declaration:

The verse begins by stating, “And all men shall fear.” The fear mentioned here is not a terror-based fear but a reverential fear, acknowledging the awe-inspiring power and sovereignty of God. When people witness God’s mighty works and His acts of deliverance, they are moved to declare His work. This declaration involves proclaiming and testifying about the wondrous deeds and attributes of God to others.

Wisely Consider:

The verse continues, “and shall wisely consider of his doing.” This phrase encourages thoughtful reflection on God’s actions. It implies a deliberate contemplation of God’s works, recognising His wisdom, faithfulness, and sovereignty displayed through His interventions in human affairs. This reflection leads to a deeper understanding of God’s character and fosters a sense of reverence and trust.

Application:

This verse reminds us that God’s actions are worthy of both awe and careful consideration. When we encounter God’s work in our lives or observe His hand at work in the world, we should respond with reverence and testify to His goodness. We are called to contemplate His ways, seeking to gain insight into His wisdom and providence. Through this reflection, our faith is strengthened, and we are better equipped to trust in His plans even in challenging times.

  • Fear and revere God and to declare His works.
  • By wisely considering His actions, we deepen our understanding of His character and grow in faith.
  • This verse reminds us of the importance of acknowledging and testifying to God’s mighty deeds in our lives and the world around us.
