Psalms 64:9

And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.

Psalms 64:9 (KJV)

Psalm 64 is David’s prayer for protection from enemies who hide their plots and use bitter words. The psalm moves from his cry for help to confidence in God’s righteous judgment. Verse 9 is the climax: when God acts, all people see it and respond. The wicked are caught by their own schemes, and God’s justice becomes visible to everyone.

The verse begins, “And all men shall fear.” This fear is not terror but reverential awe, the humble recognition of God’s power and holiness. When people see His mighty works, they are moved to declare them. The declaration is a public testimony, telling others what God has done.

The second part says, “and shall wisely consider of his doing.” To consider wisely means to ponder deeply and understand. It is not a quick glance but a deliberate reflection on God’s actions. This reflection reveals His wisdom, faithfulness, and control over events. It leads to a clearer knowledge of His character and a stronger trust in Him.

The response is not limited to the righteous; “all men” will fear and declare. This shows that God’s judgments are clear and cause people to learn righteousness. The psalm ends with the righteous rejoicing in the Lord, as seen in Psalm 64:10. The same awe that silences the wicked becomes joy for those who take refuge in God.

When we see God at work in our lives or in the world, we should respond with reverence and testify to His goodness. We are called to reflect on His ways, seeking insight into His wisdom and providence. This reflection strengthens our faith and helps us trust His plans, even in difficult times.

  • Fear and revere God, and declare His works.

  • By wisely considering His actions, we deepen our understanding of His character and grow in faith.

  • This verse reminds us to acknowledge and testify to God’s mighty deeds in our lives and around us.

God’s intervention in the face of adversity leads to awe, reflection, and testimony. His work is worthy of both fear and careful thought. As we consider His doing, we learn to trust His sovereignty and give Him glory.
