Listen to this article

“Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on Psalm 66:3 (KJV):Psalm 66:3 (KJV) says, “Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.”

Psalm 66 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving to God for His mighty works and deliverance. The psalmist calls on all the earth to worship and give glory to God. Verse 3 specifically focuses on acknowledging God’s awesome power and the submission of His enemies.

1. Context of Psalm 66:3:

Psalm 66 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving to God for His mighty works and deliverance. The psalmist calls on all the earth to worship and give glory to God. Verse 3 specifically focuses on acknowledging God’s awesome power and the submission of His enemies.

2. Reflecting on God’s works:

The psalmist begins by declaring, “Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works!” This statement acknowledges the awe-inspiring nature of God’s works. The word “terrible” here doesn’t convey fear but rather reverence and amazement. The psalmist recognizes the greatness and majesty of God displayed through His works in creation, providence, and deliverance.

3. The greatness of God’s power:

The psalmist continues, “Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.” This verse speaks of the authority and power of God, which compels even His enemies to submit. It highlights the contrast between God’s might and the weakness of His adversaries. It implies that those who oppose God and His purposes will ultimately be humbled and brought into submission before Him.

4. Application to our lives:

  • a. Reverence and awe:We should approach God with a sense of awe and reverence, acknowledging His greatness and the wonders of His works. Recognizing God’s power helps us to develop a proper perspective on who He is.
  • b. Trusting in God’s power:When faced with challenges or enemies, we can take comfort in knowing that God’s power is greater. Just as His enemies submit to Him, we can trust that God will ultimately bring about justice and victory in His time and according to His purposes.
  • c. Praising God for His works:This verse encourages us to express our gratitude and praise to God for His marvelous works. We can praise Him for His acts of creation, His providential care, and His deliverance in our lives.
  • d. Submitting to God:While this verse specifically mentions God’s enemies submitting, it reminds us of the importance of surrendering our lives to God willingly. Instead of resisting or rebelling against Him, we should humbly submit to His authority and align our lives with His will.
