Which holdeth our soule in life, and suffereth not our feete to be moued. Psalms 66:9 (KJV)

Psalm 66:9 (KJV) says: “Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.” The Book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and heartfelt prayers, songs, and expressions of praise and worship. This particular psalm, Psalm 66, is titled “To the chief Musician, A Song or Psalm” with no specific author mentioned, and it focuses on praising God for His mighty works and deliverance.

The verse begins by acknowledging the sovereignty of God, highlighting His power and authority as the One who holds our souls in life. It emphasizes the belief that God sustains our existence, giving us life and breath.

The latter part of the verse states that God does not allow our feet to be moved. In the spiritual sense this can be understood as God’s protection and guidance over our lives. Just as He sustains our souls, He also protects us from stumbling or being led astray. God’s presence and strength keep us steady on the path of righteousness.

This verse encourages believers to trust in God’s faithfulness. By recognizing God’s role as the sustainer of life and the protector of our steps, we are reminded of His constant care and provision. It invites us to rely on Him, knowing that He will be with us and help us navigate the challenges and uncertainties of life.

As we reflect on Psalm 66:9 we can draw practical applications. First, we should cultivate an attitude of gratitude for God’s sustaining power and recognize that our very existence is dependent on Him. Second, we should trust in God’s protection and guidance, knowing that He will keep us secure and prevent us from being easily swayed by the world’s temptations. Finally, we can find comfort and strength in the assurance that God is faithful and will always be there for us.

Overall, Psalm 66:9 reminds us of God’s sovereignty, protection, and faithfulness. It encourages us to acknowledge His role in our lives and place our trust in Him. Through our study of this verse we are inspired to worship and praise God for His mighty works and to depend on Him in all circumstances.
