Psalms 77:20

Listen to this article

“Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.”

Context: The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic songs and prayers that were composed over a long period of time. Psalm 77 is attributed to Asaph and is a psalm of lament. In this particular psalm, the psalmist expresses his distress and seeks comfort and assurance from God.

Leading God’s people: In verse 20, the psalmist reflects on God’s past faithfulness in leading the Israelites out of Egypt. This verse specifically mentions Moses and Aaron as the leaders through whom God guided His people.

Symbol of a flock: The psalmist compares the Israelites to a flock, emphasizing their vulnerability and dependence on God’s guidance and care. God, like a shepherd, guided them in their journey through the wilderness, protecting them, providing for them, and leading them to the Promised Land.

The significance of Moses and Aaron: Moses and Aaron were instrumental in God’s plan for the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Moses, chosen by God as the deliverer and leader of His people, performed miracles and delivered God’s messages to Pharaoh. Aaron, Moses’ brother, served as the high priest and spokesperson for Moses before the people.

God’s guidance and provision: Psalm 77:20 highlights God’s active role in leading and caring for His people. It reminds us that just as God led the Israelites through their challenges, He continues to guide and provide for His people today. God’s faithfulness and sovereignty are unchanging, and He leads His followers in paths of righteousness.

Application: As believers, we can draw encouragement and comfort from Psalm 77:20. It reminds us of God’s faithfulness in the past and assures us that He will continue to lead us in our present circumstances. We can trust in His guidance and provision, even when we face difficulties or uncertainties.
