Psalms 98:7

Posted on 18 May at 15:14
Listen to this article

“Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

Context:Psalm 98 is a song of praise and thanksgiving to God for His salvation and righteous judgments. It calls for all the earth to rejoice and sing a new song to the Lord. The psalmist encourages the use of musical instruments, shouts of joy, and the involvement of nature in praising God.

The Sea Roaring:In verse 7, the psalmist metaphorically calls on the sea to roar. The sea is often used symbolically in the Bible to represent power, vastness, and the natural world. Here, the roaring of the sea signifies the exuberant praise and adoration of God. It portrays the magnitude and intensity of worship that should emanate from every part of creation.

The Fulness Thereof:When the psalmist mentions “the fulness thereof,” it refers to everything contained within the sea. It signifies all the creatures, wonders, and resources found in the vastness of the ocean. The psalmist is calling for all aspects of creation, including the sea and everything within it, to join in the grand chorus of praise to God.

The World and Its Inhabitants:The psalmist extends the call to worship beyond the sea to the entire world and all its inhabitants. It encompasses all humanity and encourages every person to participate in praising the Lord. The psalmist acknowledges that all people, regardless of their backgrounds, have a role in glorifying God and acknowledging His greatness.

  • Lessons and Application:Psalm 98:7 reminds us of the universal call to worship and praise God. It emphasizes that worship is not limited to a specific group or location but extends to all creation. Just as the sea roars and the world rejoices, we are encouraged to express our adoration for God through our words, actions, and the involvement of every aspect of our lives.
  • This verse teaches us to embrace a holistic approach to worship, involving the entirety of creation. It challenges us to recognize God’s sovereignty and join in the harmonious symphony of praise that resounds from every corner of the world.

In summary, Psalm 98:7 invites the sea, the world, and all their inhabitants to join in praising God. It encourages us to recognize the significance of worshiping God with our whole being and engaging all aspects of creation in expressing our gratitude, awe, and reverence towards Him.
