Psalms 103:21

Posted on 18 May at 11:23

Blesse ye the Lord all yee his hostes: ye ministers of his that doe his pleasure. Psalms 103:21 (KJV)

Psalm 103 is a psalm of David that praises and extols the Lord for His abundant mercy, forgiveness, and compassion. It is a hymn of gratitude and worship, reminding us of God’s goodness and the benefits we receive as His people.

In verse 21 David calls upon the hosts of the Lord to bless Him. The hosts mentioned here are those who serve God; the text does not give a detailed catalogue of specific angelic beings, but it clearly points to heavenly beings who minister to Him.

David further describes these hosts as ministers who do God’s pleasure. Their role is to obey God’s will, to carry out His commands with joy and reverence, and to bring Him glory through their service.

The exhortation for the hosts of the Lord to bless Him invites all created beings to join in praise and adoration of God. It reflects a desire that every creature, whether in heaven or on earth, recognize and honor the greatness and goodness of the Lord.

Lessons for us today:

  • a. Recognition of heavenly beings: This verse reminds us that there are heavenly servants who worship God, even though we do not see them with our physical eyes.
  • b. The obedience of the angels: The example of these ministers encourages us to be obedient to God’s will and to carry out His purposes with joy.
  • c. Inviting all creation to praise: David’s call extends beyond any specific group, urging every believer to participate in praising God and acknowledging His goodness.
  • d. Fulfilling God’s purposes: As believers we are encouraged to seek alignment with God’s purposes, finding joy in fulfilling His desires and bringing Him glory.
