Psalms 119:50

Posted on 18 May at 15:13

“This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.”

Context:Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, consisting of 176 verses. It is an acrostic psalm, meaning that each stanza begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The psalmist expresses his love and devotion for God’s law and the impact it has on his life.

The psalmist acknowledges that in times of affliction and trouble, he finds comfort in God’s Word. Afflictions can refer to various challenges, such as physical suffering, emotional distress, persecution, or any difficult circumstances we face in life.

The psalmist affirms that God’s Word has revived or “quickened” him. The Word of God refers to the written revelation of God’s will and His communication with humanity. It includes the law, commands, promises, wisdom, and teachings found in the Scriptures.

The psalmist recognizes that when facing afflictions, turning to God’s Word provides solace and consolation. God’s Word offers hope, encouragement, guidance, and the assurance of His presence and faithfulness.

The psalmist experiences the transformative power of God’s Word. The word “quickened” implies being brought to life or revived. God’s Word has the ability to revive and rejuvenate our spirits, renew our strength, and bring us comfort and peace even in the midst of affliction.

As believers today, we can also find comfort in God’s Word when we face challenges and trials. Here are a few practical applications of Psalm 119:50:

  • a. Seek solace in God’s Word:Turn to the Scriptures when you feel distressed or burdened. Meditate on its truths, promises, and stories of God’s faithfulness. Allow the Word to bring comfort and peace to your soul.
  • b. Memorize key verses:Memorizing Bible verses can provide a source of strength and encouragement when facing afflictions. Select verses that specifically address your situation and meditate on them regularly.
  • c. Study and reflect:Engage in regular Bible study and reflection. Dive deeper into the Scriptures to understand God’s character, His promises, and His plans for your life. Let His Word transform your perspective and strengthen your faith.
  • d. Share with others:As you find comfort and encouragement in God’s Word, share it with others who are going through similar struggles. Be a source of comfort and support, pointing them to the Scriptures and the hope found in Christ.
