Psalms 119:52

Posted on 18 May at 15:13

“I remembered thy judgments of old, O Lord; and have comforted myself.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on Psalms 119:52 in the King James Version:

Context: Psalms 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, consisting of 176 verses. It is an acrostic poem divided into sections, with each section beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This psalm is a celebration of the importance and beauty of God’s law and the psalmist’s desire to follow it.

Remembering God’s Judgments: The psalmist expresses the act of remembering God’s judgments of old. Here, “judgments” refer to God’s righteous decisions, laws, and principles. The psalmist reflects on God’s past actions, particularly how He has executed justice and demonstrated His faithfulness throughout history.

Finding Comfort in God’s Judgments: The psalmist states that he finds comfort in remembering God’s judgments. This comfort arises from the psalmist’s trust in God’s righteous character and the knowledge that He will act justly. Despite the challenges and difficulties faced, the psalmist draws strength and encouragement from the awareness of God’s righteous ways.

Lessons for Us:

  • a. Trusting God’s Character: The psalmist’s act of remembering God’s judgments serves as a reminder to trust in God’s character. It assures us that God is just, faithful, and consistent in His dealings with His creation.
  • b. Drawing Comfort: In times of trial or distress, we can find comfort and solace by recalling God’s past acts of justice and faithfulness. Reflecting on His faithfulness in the past strengthens our faith and encourages us to persevere in the present.
  • c. The Importance of God’s Word: Throughout Psalm 119, the psalmist repeatedly emphasizes the value of God’s law, His commands, and His statutes. By meditating on and internalizing God’s Word, we gain a deeper understanding of His judgments, leading to comfort, guidance, and spiritual growth.

Application:

  • a. Study God’s Word: Make it a habit to study and meditate on the Scriptures regularly. By immersing ourselves in God’s Word, we gain a better understanding of His character and His ways.
  • b. Trust in God’s Faithfulness: When faced with challenges, remember the faithfulness of God in the past. Recall instances where God has displayed His justice, mercy, and grace. Let these memories strengthen your trust in Him.
  • c. Seek Comfort in God: Instead of relying solely on worldly comforts, turn to God for solace and reassurance. Remember His promises, His justice, and His unfailing love.
  • d. Encourage Others: Share your experiences of God’s faithfulness and His righteous judgments with others. Your testimony can inspire and bring comfort to those who are going through difficult times.
