Psalms 119:175

Posted on 18 May at 15:12
Listen to this article

“Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.”

1. Context:Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible and is known for its focus on God’s law and the psalmist’s love for it. This particular verse is found towards the end of the psalm, and it expresses the psalmist’s longing for God’s intervention, guidance, and praise.

2. Dependence on God: The verse begins with a plea from the psalmist, “Let my soul live.” It indicates a deep recognition of the psalmist’s dependence on God for life itself. It acknowledges that true life, in both a physical and spiritual sense, is found in God alone. It demonstrates a posture of humility and reliance on God for sustenance.

3. Praise and Worship: The psalmist states, “and it shall praise thee.” Here, the psalmist affirms that if his soul is allowed to live, it will respond with praise and worship towards God. It reveals an understanding that our purpose as God’s creation is to glorify and honor Him. It highlights the psalmist’s desire to offer heartfelt gratitude and adoration to God for His goodness and faithfulness.

4. Seeking God’s Judgments: The psalmist continues, “and let thy judgments help me.” “Judgments” in this context refer to God’s righteous decisions, His laws, and His instructions. The psalmist acknowledges that God’s judgments are not only just but also beneficial for his life. It reflects a desire for God’s guidance and wisdom to navigate life’s challenges, knowing that God’s ways are perfect and trustworthy.

5. Application:As we reflect on Psalm 119:175, we can learn several lessons:

  • – Recognize our dependence on God: Just as the psalmist acknowledges his soul’s dependence on God for life, we should humbly acknowledge our reliance on God for every aspect of our existence.
  • – Cultivate a heart of praise: We are called to praise and worship God with our whole being. Let our gratitude for God’s goodness and grace overflow in songs of praise and acts of worship.
  • – Seek God’s guidance: Like the psalmist, we should seek God’s judgments and instructions. We can find wisdom, guidance, and direction in His Word. Let us align our lives with His truth and trust in His righteous ways.
