Psalms 144:11

Posted on 18 May at 14:11

“Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.”

This verse is part of Psalm 144, which is attributed to King David. It is a prayer of praise and supplication, expressing David’s reliance on God’s strength and protection. In this particular verse, David is seeking deliverance from the influence and harm of deceitful and wicked individuals. Let’s break down the verse to gain a deeper understanding:

“Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children…” The phrase “strange children” refers to those who are not part of God’s people or who do not follow His ways. David is asking God to rescue him from the control or influence of these individuals. He desires to be separated from their negative and harmful actions.

“…whose mouth speaketh vanity…” David identifies one aspect of their wickedness: their mouths speak vanity. This means their speech is empty, deceptive, and devoid of truth. They may use their words to deceive or manipulate others. David recognizes the destructive power of their words and seeks to be protected from their falsehoods.

“…and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.” The right hand is often associated with strength and action. Here, David emphasizes that their actions are characterized by falsehood and deceit. Their right hand represents their deeds, which are deceptive and untruthful. David seeks deliverance from the harm that may come from their deceitful actions.

Overall, Psalm 144:11 portrays David’s plea for God’s deliverance and protection from the influence of wicked and deceitful people. It reminds us of the importance of seeking God’s guidance and strength when facing challenges or dealing with individuals who may lead us astray. We can trust in God’s faithfulness to shield us from the harm caused by falsehood and to guide us in the paths of righteousness.
