Isaiah 27:2

In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine.

Isaiah 27:2 (KJV)

This verse appears within a prophetic passage describing a coming day when God will judge His enemies and restore His people. The immediate setting follows the promise that the Lord will punish Leviathan, a symbol of evil, and then turns to a song of joy over Israel’s deliverance. The phrase “In that day” points to a future time when God will fulfill His purposes, bringing both judgment and restoration.

The call to “sing ye unto her” addresses the people of God, inviting them to rejoice over His saving work. The “vineyard of red wine” is a metaphor for God’s people, depicting them as fruitful and blessed. This imagery contrasts with Isaiah 5:1-7, where the vineyard produced wild grapes because of unfaithfulness. Here the tone shifts to abundance and divine favor, emphasizing that God will restore what was broken. The reference to red wine suggests richness and joy, fitting symbols for the abundant life God provides.

Singing is the natural response to God’s faithfulness. Throughout Scripture, praise accompanies deliverance, and this verse calls for a joyful acknowledgment of what the Lord has done. The song anticipates the worship of God’s people after their enemies are defeated, a pattern seen in Revelation 15:1-3, where the redeemed rejoice over God’s victory.

This verse reminds believers that God is a God of restoration. He can turn any situation around for His glory, just as He promised to restore His vineyard. The imagery of a fruitful vineyard assures us that God desires to bless His people and provide for their needs. When we recognize His faithfulness, our response should be joyful praise and worship.

Trust in God’s restorative work, even when circumstances seem barren. The same God who promised to care for His vineyard watches over His people continually, guarding them day and night. Our part is to respond with gratitude and confidence in His provision, knowing that He who began a good work will complete it.

Consider how God has shown His faithfulness in your own life. Where have you seen Him bring fruitfulness out of difficulty? Let this verse encourage you to sing of His goodness, for He is faithful to restore and bless those who trust in Him.
