Isaiah 27:3

Listen to this article

“I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.”

Isaiah 27:3 (KJV) says:“I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.”

This verse is part of a larger passage in Isaiah where the prophet speaks of the future restoration and redemption of God’s people. Let’s explore the context and meaning of this verse:

Context:The book of Isaiah contains prophecies and messages of both judgment and hope. In Isaiah 27, the prophet envisions a time when God will judge and destroy the enemies of Israel and gather His people back to their land. This chapter speaks of the destruction of Leviathan, a symbol of chaos and evil, and the eventual flourishing of God’s vineyard, which represents His people.

The LORD as the Keeper:In Isaiah 27:3, God declares, “I the LORD do keep it.” Here, the “it” refers to the vineyard or the people of Israel. The imagery of a vineyard is commonly used in the Bible to represent God’s people (see Isaiah 5:1-7, for example). By declaring Himself as the Keeper, God emphasizes His role as the protector and caretaker of His people.

Continuous Provision:The verse continues, “I will water it every moment.” God’s promise to water the vineyard every moment signifies His continuous provision and sustenance. Just as a vineyard needs regular watering for growth and fruitfulness, God promises to provide for His people constantly, ensuring their spiritual nourishment and development.

Divine Protection:The verse further states, “Lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.” Here, God assures His people that He will protect them from any harm. His watchful care extends day and night, emphasizing His unwavering commitment to safeguarding His chosen ones.

Overall, Isaiah 27:3 highlights God’s faithfulness, provision, and protection towards His people. It depicts His role as the Keeper of His vineyard, assuring continuous nourishment and guarding against any potential harm. This verse reminds believers of God’s steadfast love and His commitment to sustaining and protecting them in all circumstances.

As you continue to study the book of Isaiah and the Bible as a whole, may you find wisdom, encouragement, and a deepening understanding of God’s character and His plans for His people.
