Isaiah 43:7
Euen euery one that is called by my Name: for I haue created him for my glory, I haue formed him, yea I haue made him. Isaiah 43:7 (KJV)
Isaiah 43 is a chapter of comfort and assurance for the people of Israel. The prophet Isaiah speaks on behalf of God, reminding the Israelites of God’s faithfulness, His power to save, and His plan to redeem and restore them.
Being Called by God’s Name: In this verse God declares that “every one that is called by my name.” The phrase implies a covenant relationship with God. In the Old Testament, names were significant, representing a person’s character and identity. When someone is called by God’s name, it signifies belonging to Him and being His people.
Created for God’s Glory: The verse continues, “for I have created him for my glory.” Here God reveals the purpose of creation: to bring glory to Him. Humanity is created to reflect God’s image, character, and attributes, and to live in a way that honors Him.
Formed and Made by God: God further emphasizes His role as Creator, stating, “I have formed him; yea, I have made him.” This highlights the intimate involvement of God in shaping every individual. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him (cf. Psalm 139:14).
Application:
Identity in Christ: As Christians we are called by God’s name through our relationship with Jesus Christ. We are adopted into God’s family and bear His name, reminding us of our identity in Christ and the responsibility to reflect His character.
Living for God’s Glory: Recognising that we are created for God’s glory should shape every aspect of our lives. Our actions, decisions, and attitudes ought to be aligned with the purpose of glorifying God. We glorify Him by obeying His commandments, sharing the Gospel, serving others, and pursuing holy living.
God’s Intimate Involvement: The verse assures us that God is not a distant deity but a loving Creator who cares for each person individually. This truth brings comfort and confidence that He is present in every circumstance.
Value and Dignity of Human Life: Understanding that God formed and made us reinforces the inherent worth of every human life. Each person is uniquely created by God, which should shape our view of ourselves and others, promoting love, respect, and care for all people.
