Daniel 7:16
“I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.”
Context:Daniel 7 is a chapter in the Book of Daniel that records a vision given to the prophet Daniel concerning future events and the rise and fall of empires. In this vision, Daniel sees four great beasts emerging from the sea, each representing a different kingdom.
Seeking the Truth:In verse 16, Daniel approaches one of the divine beings or angels who stood by in the vision. He expresses his desire to know the truth and understand the meaning of the things he has witnessed. Daniel’s humility and curiosity demonstrate his earnestness in seeking knowledge and understanding.
Divine Interpretation:The angel whom Daniel approached responds to his inquiry and provides him with the interpretation of the vision in the subsequent verses. This interpretation explains that the four beasts represent four kings or kingdoms that will arise on the earth. It also reveals details about these kingdoms and their ultimate judgment before the Ancient of Days.
Lessons from Daniel’s Approach:
- Humility:Daniel’s approach to the divine being reflects his humility. Instead of relying solely on his own understanding, he seeks insight from a higher source. This teaches us the importance of recognizing our limitations and seeking divine guidance in understanding spiritual matters.
- Diligence:Daniel’s pursuit of understanding required him to approach the divine being and ask for clarification. Likewise, we should be diligent in studying the Scriptures and seeking answers to our questions. This can involve prayer, studying commentaries, seeking wise counsel, and engaging in meaningful discussions with others.
God’s Provision:Daniel’s willingness to seek the truth and approach the divine being resulted in the interpretation being made known to him. Similarly, when we approach God with a sincere heart and a thirst for knowledge, He will provide understanding and insights through His Word, the Holy Spirit, and various means of guidance.
Application:Daniel’s attitude of seeking truth and understanding has valuable applications for us as believers today. We can follow his example by approaching God with humility, diligently studying His Word, and seeking His guidance. As we seek truth, God will reveal Himself to us, deepen our understanding of His plans, and provide insight into the world around us.
