Daniel 7:28
Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart. Daniel 7:28 (KJV)
The book of Daniel contains prophecies and visions given to Daniel during the Babylonian captivity. In chapter 7 Daniel sees four great beasts representing four kingdoms, witnesses the Ancient of Days seated on a throne, and observes the coming of the Son of Man.
Daniel’s vision of the four beasts and the judgment of the Ancient of Days deeply moved him. The description of the events and their magnitude caused great distress and concern within him, and his countenance was changed by the weight of what he saw.
Throughout the book of Daniel God frequently reveals visions and prophecies to Daniel. In this case He provides insight into future events and the establishment of His eternal kingdom, offering a glimpse of the ultimate perfection that will follow the judgment.
The impact of the vision on Daniel’s emotions is evident. He was profoundly affected, recognizing the heaviness of the revelation on his heart. His thoughts troubled him greatly, and the vision’s significance weighed heavily upon him.
Despite the overwhelming nature of the vision, Daniel chose to keep the matter in his heart. This suggests that he contemplated and meditated on the meaning and significance of what he had seen, rather than reacting impulsively or sharing the vision immediately. He carefully considered its implications.
Daniel’s vision reveals the rise and fall of earthly kingdoms and the ultimate establishment of God’s everlasting kingdom. Even amid the turmoil and distress the vision caused, Daniel placed his trust in God’s sovereignty, recognizing that even in difficult circumstances God was in control.
