Daniel 7:27

Listen to this article

“And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.”

Context:It’s important to understand the context of this verse to grasp its meaning fully. The vision in Daniel 7 depicts four great beasts representing four successive kingdoms: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. These kingdoms would dominate the world, but ultimately their power would be taken away, and a new, eternal kingdom would be established.

The Kingdom and Dominion:The verse begins by proclaiming that the kingdom and dominion, along with its greatness, will be given to the people of the saints of the Most High. Here, “the Most High” refers to God. The kingdom mentioned is a heavenly and divine kingdom, distinct from the earthly kingdoms that preceded it.

The People of the Saints:The verse specifies that the kingdom is given to the “people of the saints.” In the context of the Bible, “saints” refers to the faithful followers of God. In the New Testament, believers in Jesus Christ are often referred to as saints. This suggests that the establishment of this everlasting kingdom involves the participation of the faithful followers of God.

Everlasting Kingdom:The verse emphasizes that this kingdom will be everlasting. Unlike the previous earthly kingdoms that rose and fell, this kingdom will endure forever. It signifies the ultimate victory and sovereignty of God’s reign.

All Dominions Shall Serve and Obey:The verse concludes by stating that all dominions shall serve and obey the everlasting kingdom. This indicates that the authority and rulership of the divine kingdom will extend over all other dominions and nations. It points to a time when all earthly powers will acknowledge and submit to the reign of God.
