Daniel 12:1
“And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.”
Context:The book of Daniel contains prophecies and visions given to the prophet Daniel during the Babylonian exile. In this particular chapter, Daniel receives a final revelation concerning the end times.
The Time of Trouble:The verse begins by mentioning a specific time, referring to the end times. It speaks of a period of unparalleled trouble, unlike anything experienced before by any nation. This time of trouble is often associated with the Great Tribulation mentioned in other parts of the Bible, particularly in the book of Revelation (Matthew 24:21; Revelation 7:14).
Michael, the Great Prince:The verse also mentions the archangel Michael. He is described as the great prince who stands up or takes action on behalf of "the children of thy people." Michael is a prominent angelic figure in the Bible, often associated with protection and deliverance (Jude 1:9; Revelation 12:7).
Deliverance of God’s People:During this time of unprecedented trouble, God’s people will be delivered. Those who are "found written in the book" will experience salvation and deliverance. This book refers to the Book of Life, which contains the names of those who belong to God and will inherit eternal life (Revelation 20:12, 15).
Application and Interpretation:The verse encourages believers to have faith and trust in God during times of trouble and uncertainty. It reminds us that God is in control, and He will ultimately deliver His people. It also emphasizes the importance of having our names written in the Book of Life through faith in Jesus Christ, who offers salvation to all who believe in Him (John 3:16; Acts 4:12).
