The Lord also shal roare out of Zion, and vtter his voice from Ierusalem, and the heauens and the earth shall shake, but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. Joel 3:16 (KJV)

The book of Joel is one of the Minor Prophets in the Old Testament. It was written by the prophet Joel to the people of Judah during a time of significant locust infestation and impending judgment. The book contains messages of both judgment and hope, focusing on the need for repentance and the restoration of God’s people.

The Roar of the Lord: In Joel 3:16, the prophet describes the Lord roaring out of Zion. This imagery conveys a powerful manifestation of God’s presence and His coming judgment. The roaring emphasizes God’s authority, sovereignty, and power. It implies that God is about to take action on behalf of His people and against their enemies.

God’s Voice and the Shaking of Heaven and Earth: Joel further states that God will utter His voice from Jerusalem, causing the heavens and the earth to shake. This imagery suggests a cosmic upheaval and highlights the magnitude of the divine intervention. The shaking of the heavens and earth signifies the divine judgment and the disruption of the natural order, which often occurs when God intervenes in human affairs.

The Hope of His People: Amidst the shaking and the impending judgment, Joel reassures the people that the Lord will be the hope of His people. Despite the challenges and trials they may face, God remains their source of hope and salvation. This verse reminds believers that even in times of turmoil and uncertainty, they can find solace, strength, and confidence in the Lord.

The Strength of the Children of Israel: While Joel 3:16 in the King James Version does not explicitly mention the strength of the children of Israel, the broader biblical narrative affirms that God provides strength to His covenant people. Believers can rely on His power to sustain them in weakness.

Overall, Joel 3:16 encourages believers to place their hope in God, even in the midst of tumultuous times. It reminds us that God’s presence, power, and faithfulness are sources of comfort and strength. The verse also highlights the impending judgment that awaits those who oppose God’s people. Ultimately, it calls for repentance and trust in the Lord for deliverance and salvation.
