Matthew 7:25

Posted on 18 May at 11:24

And the raine descended, and the floods came, and the windes blew, and beat vpon that house: and it fell not, for it was founded vpon a rocke. Matthew 7:25 (KJV)

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon the rock.

The Wise Man: The wise man in this parable is a metaphorical representation of a person who hears Jesus’ teachings and applies them to their life. By building his house upon a rock, the wise man creates a firm foundation, symbolising a solid spiritual life.

Building on a Rock: The metaphor of building a house on a rock signifies the importance of a sturdy foundation in one’s faith. Just as a house built on a rock can withstand external forces like rain, floods, and wind, a person rooted in Jesus’ teachings can endure life’s challenges and remain steadfast in their faith.

Rain, Floods, and Winds: The adversities represented by rain, floods, and winds highlight the trials and tribulations that believers may encounter in their lives. These challenges can manifest in various forms, such as persecution, temptations, or personal hardships. However, those who have a strong foundation in Christ can withstand these difficulties and remain spiritually unshaken.

The House That Did Not Fall: The outcome of the parable shows that the house built on the rock does not collapse despite the onslaught of rain, floods, and winds. Similarly, the person who hears Jesus’ words and puts them into practice will be able to stand firm and remain steadfast in their faith, regardless of the challenges they face.

Application: Matthew 7:24‑27 encourages believers to not only listen to the teachings of Jesus but also to obey and live by them. It emphasises the importance of applying biblical principles to every aspect of life, so that when trials come, one’s faith will not crumble. By having a strong foundation in Christ and following His teachings, believers can navigate the storms of life and remain unshaken.

Overall: Matthew 7:24‑27 reminds us that true wisdom comes from hearing and doing God’s Word. It encourages us to build our lives on the unchanging foundation of Christ, which equips us to withstand the trials and challenges we may face along our spiritual journey.
