Luke 8:17

Posted on 18 May at 14:41

“For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither anything hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.”

Context:To better understand this verse, let’s look at its context. In Luke 8, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower and explains its meaning to His disciples. He emphasizes the importance of hearing and understanding the Word of God and warns against allowing the cares of this world to hinder spiritual growth. In verse 16, Jesus says, “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed, but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.”

Revealing the truth:In Luke 8:17, Jesus continues the discussion of light and darkness. He declares that nothing hidden or secret will remain concealed forever. Just as a lit candle reveals its light and cannot be hidden, eventually, all things that are currently hidden or secret will be made known and come to light.

Divine justice:This verse carries the idea that God’s justice and truth will prevail in due time. It serves as a reminder that even though some things may be hidden or obscured now, God sees and knows all. He will bring to light every hidden motive, action, and truth. This verse provides comfort to believers who may face injustice or hidden opposition, knowing that God will ultimately bring everything to light and execute justice.

Accountability:Luke 8:17 also serves as a warning about accountability. It implies that there will be a day of reckoning when all secrets will be revealed and every hidden thing will come to light. It encourages believers to live with integrity, knowing that God sees and knows everything. It reminds us to be mindful of our actions, motives, and thoughts, as they will be laid bare before God.

Faithfulness and transparency:This verse challenges believers to live faithfully and transparently before God and others. It calls for genuine and authentic Christian living, rooted in honesty and truthfulness. Instead of hiding our actions, thoughts, or motives, we are encouraged to live in the light of God’s truth, being open and honest in our dealings with Him and others.

Application:As we apply Luke 8:17 to our lives, it prompts us to examine our hearts and actions. Are there any hidden or secret areas in our lives that need to be brought into the light of God’s truth? Are there any motives or actions that we need to confess and surrender to Him? This verse encourages us to live with integrity, knowing that God’s truth will ultimately prevail.

  • In conclusion, Luke 8:17 reminds us that nothing is truly hidden or secret before God.
  • It emphasizes the certainty that all things will be made manifest and known in due time.
  • As believers, we are called to live faithfully and transparently before God and others, knowing that God’s justice will ultimately prevail.
