Came behinde him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediatly her issue of blood stanched. Luke 8:44 (KJV)

In this verse we encounter a significant event in the life of Jesus Christ. Luke 8:43-48 recounts the story of a woman who had been suffering from a continuous flow of blood for twelve years. In her desperate search for a cure she approached Jesus from behind in a large crowd, believing that if she could only touch the border of His garment she would be healed. When she finally touched the edge of Jesus’ robe something extraordinary occurred: immediately her bleeding ceased, fulfilling her faith‑driven expectation.

Sensing that power had gone out from Him, Jesus turned and asked who had touched Him. The woman, realizing she could not go unnoticed, came forward trembling and revealed herself. In Luke 8:48 Jesus responds, “Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” This statement confirms that it was the woman’s faith in Jesus’ ability to heal that brought about her restoration, rather than merely touching His garment.

This passage teaches us several important lessons:

  • Faith in Jesus’ power – The woman’s faith in Jesus’ ability to heal was the driving force behind her action. Her deep conviction that even touching His garment would lead to healing emphasizes the significance of believing in Jesus’ power and placing our trust in Him.
  • Jesus’ compassion – In His compassion Jesus not only healed the woman physically but also acknowledged her as His daughter. His comforting response encourages her to go in peace and highlights His love, care, and concern for individuals even amid a crowd.
  • Faith as a means of salvation – Jesus attributes the healing to her faith, saying “thy faith hath made thee whole.” This underscores the importance of faith in Jesus as a means of receiving salvation and spiritual wholeness, opening the door to experiencing the transformative power of Christ.
  • Personal connection with Jesus – Despite being part of a crowd, Jesus recognized the woman’s touch as distinct. This shows that He is aware of and responsive to our individual needs, encouraging us to develop a personal relationship with Him, knowing He cares for us personally.

Overall Luke 8:43‑48 reveals the power of faith in Jesus, His compassion for those who seek Him, and the significance of developing a personal connection with Him. It encourages us to approach Jesus with unwavering faith, believing in His ability to bring healing, restoration, and peace into our lives.
