Luke 22:29

Posted on 18 May at 14:38
Listen to this article

“And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me.”

Kingdom Appointment:Jesus states, “And I appoint unto you a kingdom.” Here, Jesus is speaking to his disciples and bestowing upon them a significant responsibility. He is entrusting them with a kingdom, which symbolizes authority and rule. This suggests that Jesus intended to delegate authority and responsibility to his followers in spreading the message of the kingdom of God.

The Father’s Appointment:Jesus further explains that this appointment mirrors the appointment his Father has made unto him. In this statement, Jesus establishes a connection between the Father’s appointment of him and his appointment of the disciples. It indicates that the disciples are being chosen and commissioned by Jesus in a similar manner to how Jesus himself was chosen and commissioned by the Father.

Jesus’ Divine Authority:By stating that the Father has appointed a kingdom unto him, Jesus is reaffirming his divine authority and his role as the Messiah. He is declaring that the authority he possesses has been given to him by the Father, and now he is passing on a portion of that authority to his disciples.

Disciples’ Future Role:This verse highlights the significance of the disciples’ role in the spreading of the kingdom of God. They are not just passive observers or followers, but active participants with a specific mission. Jesus is entrusting them with the responsibility to continue his work and carry forth the message of salvation to the world.

Application to Believers Today:While this statement was initially directed to Jesus’ disciples, it holds relevance for believers today. As followers of Christ, we are called to be a part of God’s kingdom and continue the work that Jesus began. We have been appointed to share the good news of the Gospel and live out the values of God’s kingdom in our daily lives.

Overall, Luke 22:29 emphasizes the authority and responsibility given by Jesus to his disciples. It reveals Jesus’ divine appointment and the significant role of believers in continuing his work in the world today. This verse reminds us of the privilege and responsibility we have as followers of Christ to be partakers in God’s kingdom.
