Romans 16:10

Listen to this article

“Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus’ household.”

Context: The book of Romans is a letter written by the apostle Paul to the Christians in Rome. In the closing chapter of the letter, Paul sends greetings and commendations to various individuals in the Roman church.

Identifying Apelles: In Romans 16:10, Paul mentions Apelles, whom he describes as “approved in Christ.” Unfortunately, not much is known about Apelles beyond this mention. It is likely that he was a member of the Roman church and was highly regarded by Paul as being faithful and dedicated to Christ.

Understanding “approved in Christ”: The phrase “approved in Christ” indicates that Apelles had demonstrated his faith and commitment to Jesus Christ. It implies that he had been tested or proven to be genuine in his faith and was recognized as such by Paul and possibly others in the church.

Greetings to Aristobulus’ household: In the same verse, Paul sends greetings to “them which are of Aristobulus’ household.” Aristobulus is believed to be an individual associated with the Roman church, possibly the head of a household where believers gathered for worship. Paul extends his greetings to the members of that household, expressing his desire for them to be blessed and encouraged.

  • Faithfulness in Christ: The mention of Apelles being “approved in Christ” reminds us of the importance of remaining steadfast and faithful in our relationship with Jesus. It encourages us to live lives that demonstrate our commitment to Him and to be found faithful when tested.
  • Communal greetings: Paul’s greeting to Aristobulus’ household teaches us the value of community within the church. It highlights the importance of building relationships, offering encouragement, and supporting one another in our journey of faith. As believers, we are called to love and care for one another, extending greetings and blessings to our fellow believers.
  • Recognition of dedication: Paul’s mention of Apelles serves as a reminder that our faith and dedication to Christ can be recognized and commended by others. When we live out our faith authentically and wholeheartedly, it can impact those around us, and our commitment to Christ may serve as an example to others.

In conclusion, Romans 16:10 is a brief but significant verse within Paul’s closing remarks to the Roman church. It highlights the faithfulness of Apelles in Christ and offers greetings to the members of Aristobulus’ household. This verse encourages us to be committed to Christ, value community within the church, and live out our faith in a way that is commendable to others.
