Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the houshold of Narcissus, which are in the Lord. Romans 16:11 (KJV)

Context: The book of Romans was written by the Apostle Paul to the believers in Rome. In this chapter, Paul concludes his letter by sending greetings and expressing his appreciation for various individuals in the church.

Herodion: Paul greets Herodion as his kinsman. The identity of Herodion is not explicitly mentioned elsewhere in the Bible, so we don’t have much information about him. However, it is likely that he was a fellow Jewish believer in Rome who had a close relationship with Paul.

The household of Narcissus: Paul also sends greetings to those who belong to the household of Narcissus. Again, the specific details about this household are not given in the Bible. It is possible that Narcissus was a prominent individual in Roman society, and some members of his household had come to faith in Christ.

“In the Lord”: The phrase “which are in the Lord” highlights the spiritual connection of the people Paul mentions. It indicates that they were believers, united in their faith in Jesus Christ. This common bond of faith in the Lord formed a basis for their mutual greetings and recognition.

Importance of personal relationships: Paul’s greeting to Herodion and the household of Narcissus reflects the importance of personal connections within the Christian community. As believers, we are called to love and support one another, fostering deep relationships that encourage and strengthen our faith.

Unity in diversity: The mention of various individuals and households within the Roman church reminds us that the body of Christ is diverse. People from different backgrounds, social status, and positions can come together as one in the Lord. It is a reminder that our faith transcends worldly distinctions and unites us as one family in Christ.

The value of recognizing and appreciating others: Paul took the time to greet and acknowledge specific individuals and households. This demonstrates the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions and presence of fellow believers. Encouragement and recognition can go a long way in fostering a sense of belonging and unity within the body of Christ.
