Ephesians 6:11

Posted on 18 May at 14:30

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on

Verse: “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Context:

The book of Ephesians, written by the Apostle Paul, addresses various aspects of the Christian life and provides practical instructions for believers. In Ephesians 6, Paul concludes his letter by discussing the spiritual battle believers face and the need for them to put on the full armor of God.

The Importance of Spiritual Armor:

– Why do believers need to put on the whole armor of God? Paul emphasizes the reality of spiritual warfare. As followers of Christ, we are engaged in a spiritual battle against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, it is crucial to be equipped with the armor of God to withstand the enemy’s attacks and strategies.

Understanding the Armor of God:

– The Whole Armor: The phrase “whole armor of God” implies that God has provided us with a complete set of spiritual armor. Each piece plays a vital role in our defense against the devil’s schemes.

– Belt of Truth: The belt represents the truth of God’s Word that holds everything together and guards against deception.

– Breastplate of Righteousness: The breastplate protects our heart and represents the righteousness we receive through faith in Christ.

– Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: These shoes enable us to stand firm in the gospel of peace, bringing the message of reconciliation and readiness to share God’s love with others.

– Shield of Faith: The shield is used to extinguish the fiery arrows of the enemy. Faith enables us to trust in God’s promises and overcome doubt and fear.

– Helmet of Salvation: The helmet protects our minds and reminds us of our secure salvation in Christ, guarding against doubt and discouragement.

– Sword of the Spirit: The sword represents the Word of God, which is our offensive weapon against the enemy’s lies and temptations.

Standing Against the Wiles of the Devil:

– The Devil’s Schemes: The devil, also known as Satan, is a cunning adversary who seeks to deceive, discourage, and destroy believers. He employs various strategies or “wiles” to undermine our faith and lead us away from God’s truth.

– Standing Firm: By putting on the whole armor of God, we can stand firm against the devil’s schemes. We are not defenseless but empowered by God’s strength and equipped with spiritual weapons.

– The Power of God: As we rely on God’s strength and put on His armor, we can resist and overcome the enemy. It is not by our own might but through the power of God that we can withstand and be victorious in spiritual battles.

Application:

  • Regularly put on the whole armor of God by studying and applying the truth of God’s Word in our lives.
  • Be aware of the enemy’s strategies and tactics, and guard against deception and spiritual attacks.
  • Cultivate a lifestyle of faith, relying on God’s promises and trusting in His guidance and protection.
  • Remain rooted in the gospel of peace and be ready to share God’s love and message of salvation with others.
  • Use the Word of God as a sword, meditating on it, and allowing it to shape our thoughts, decisions, and actions.

Remember that our strength and victory come from the Lord. Through the armor of God, we can stand firm and overcome the wiles of the devil, confident in the power and protection of our heavenly Father.
