Epaphras, who is one of you, a seruant of Christ, saluteth you, alwaies labouring feruently for you in praiers, that ye may stand perfect, and complete in all the will of God. Colossians 4:12 (KJV)

To better understand Colossians 4:12, it is important to consider its immediate context. The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the church in Colossae, addressing believers who were newly rooted in the gospel. In this particular verse Paul mentions Epaphras, a fellow believer and servant of Christ who was actively involved in the lives of the Colossian Christians.

Epaphras is described as “one of you,” indicating that he shared the same regional background or community as the Colossian believers. He is presented as a faithful follower of Christ who devoted his life to serving others. This description highlights Epaphras’ deep commitment to the spiritual well‑being of the church in Colossae.

The passage commends Epaphras for his unwavering dedication to prayer. The phrase “always labouring fervently for you in prayers” underscores the intensity and persistence of his intercessory life. He earnestly prayed on behalf of the Colossian believers, seeking God’s blessings, guidance, and protection for them.

Epaphras’ prayers had a clear purpose: that the Colossians “may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.” This reveals his desire for their spiritual maturity and growth. He longed for them to be fully aligned with God’s will, experiencing the fullness of their faith in every circumstance.

The expression “stand perfect and complete” conveys a state of spiritual maturity, stability, and readiness. Epaphras prayed that the believers would not only increase in knowledge but also remain steadfast and firm in their commitment to God. Such standing involves embracing and living out God’s will in every aspect of life, reflecting the mature character of a Christ‑centered community.
