Revelation 16:7

Listen to this article

“And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.”

Context:The book of Revelation is a prophetic vision given to the apostle John while he was exiled on the island of Patmos. It unveils future events and the ultimate victory of God over evil. Chapter 16 specifically describes the pouring out of the seven bowls of God’s wrath upon the earth.

The Altar:In this verse, John hears a voice coming from the altar. The altar symbolizes the place of sacrifice and worship. It could be the altar of incense, which was located before the throne of God in the heavenly sanctuary (Revelation 8:3-4). The voice from the altar is acknowledging and affirming the righteousness of God’s judgments.

“Even so, Lord God Almighty”:This phrase signifies an agreement with and acceptance of the judgments being poured out by God. It expresses submission to God’s will and acknowledges His sovereignty. The title “Lord God Almighty” emphasizes God’s power and authority over all things.

“True and righteous are thy judgments”:This statement recognizes the justness and fairness of God’s judgments. It affirms that God’s actions are based on truth and righteousness. Throughout the book of Revelation, the judgments poured out by God are seen as a response to the wickedness and rebellion of humanity and as a means of bringing about justice.

Application:Revelation 16:7 reminds us of the importance of recognising God’s authority and trusting in His judgments. It encourages us to submit to God’s will and acknowledge His righteousness in all circumstances. Even in the midst of turmoil and chaos, we can have confidence that God’s judgments are true and just.

Furthermore, this verse serves as a reminder that God’s judgments are not arbitrary or capricious. They are based on His perfect knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. As believers, we can find comfort and assurance in knowing that God’s judgments will ultimately bring about His purposes and establish His kingdom of righteousness.

In conclusion, Revelation 16:7 affirms the righteousness of God’s judgments and emphasises the need for believers to trust in His sovereignty. It reminds us to submit to God’s will and acknowledge His perfect justice in all things.
