Listen to this article

“Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.”

Context:The book of Acts, written by Luke, provides a historical account of the early church and the spread of Christianity. Acts 15:35 occurs after the Jerusalem Council, where the apostles and elders gathered to discuss the requirements for Gentile believers to join the Christian faith.

Paul and Barnabas:Paul and Barnabas were prominent figures in the early Christian church. They were missionaries who embarked on several missionary journeys to spread the Gospel. In Acts 15:35, they returned to Antioch after the Jerusalem Council and resumed their ministry.

Teaching and Preaching:The verse highlights that Paul and Barnabas, along with others, continued their work of teaching and preaching the word of the Lord in Antioch. Teaching involves instructing believers in the doctrines and principles of the faith, while preaching involves proclaiming the Gospel message to both believers and non-believers.

Importance of Teaching:Teaching the Word of God is crucial for the growth and maturation of believers. It equips them with knowledge and understanding of God’s truths, helping them deepen their relationship with Him and live according to His will. Through teaching, believers are strengthened in their faith and are better equipped to share the Gospel with others.

Importance of Preaching:Preaching plays a vital role in evangelism, reaching out to those who have not yet heard or accepted the message of salvation. It involves proclaiming the Gospel boldly, urging people to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Through preaching, the transformative power of the Gospel is shared, and hearts and lives are changed.

Continuation of Ministry:The fact that Paul and Barnabas, along with others, continued their ministry in Antioch demonstrates their commitment to spreading the word of the Lord. Despite challenges and opposition, they persisted in their calling, making an impact on the lives of believers and non-believers alike.

Application:Acts 15:35 encourages believers today to actively engage in teaching and preaching the Gospel. We should be committed to sharing the truth of God’s Word, both within the church community and beyond. By teaching, we help fellow believers grow in their faith, while by preaching, we bring the good news of salvation to those who have not yet heard it.

  • Acts 15:35 emphasizes the ongoing ministry of Paul and Barnabas in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord.
  • This verse encourages believers to prioritize teaching and preaching, as they play vital roles in the spiritual growth of individuals and the expansion of God’s kingdom.
