Acts 19:41

And when hee had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly. Acts 19:41 (KJV)

The verse “And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly” marks the concluding statement of chapter 19 in the King James Version of the book of Acts. The entire book of Acts in the KJV is composed of twenty‑eight chapters, and this sentence is recorded as the final verse of the nineteenth chapter.

Regarding its presence in other English translations, the evidence is mixed. Some major translations, such as the NIV, ESV, and NASB, render the verse with only minor wording variations, indicating that they include it in their text. In contrast, many other translations do not contain this verse at all, reflecting a notable difference in textual tradition across modern Bible versions.

Because of this discrepancy, a number of scholars have concluded that the verse is likely a later addition to the text and is not considered part of the original composition of Acts. The view that it may have been inserted after the original manuscript stage is supported by its absence from the majority of contemporary translations and by textual‑critical observations.

The divergent treatment of this short sentence highlights the importance of careful textual comparison when studying the New Testament. Readers are encouraged to be aware of such variations, to consult multiple translations, and to consider the scholarly discussion surrounding verses that appear in some editions but are omitted in others. This awareness helps maintain a balanced and informed approach to biblical study.
