Acts 2:1

Listen to this article

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”

Context:Acts 2 records the event of the Day of Pentecost, which took place 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was a significant day for the early disciples as they experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

The Day of Pentecost:The Day of Pentecost was a Jewish festival that celebrated the giving of the Law to Moses on Mount Sinai. It was also known as the Feast of Weeks or Shavuot. On this day, Jews from different parts of the world gathered in Jerusalem to observe the festival.

Unity of the Disciples:The verse highlights that the disciples were “with one accord in one place.” This unity among the disciples is crucial and serves as a foundational principle for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Unity among believers is important in fulfilling the purposes of God and experiencing His blessings.

Waiting for the Promise:Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He instructed His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received the promise of the Father, which was the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4-5). The disciples obeyed and gathered together, demonstrating their faith and anticipation for the fulfillment of God’s promise.

Application:As believers today, we can draw lessons from this verse. First, unity among believers is crucial for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the advancement of God’s kingdom. We should strive to maintain unity and love within the body of Christ. Second, we should patiently wait for the fulfillment of God’s promises, just as the disciples waited for the Holy Spirit. We can seek God through prayer, study of His Word, and fellowship with other believers, trusting that He will fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.
