Acts 20:25

And now behold, I know that ye all, among whom I haue gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. Acts 20:25 (KJV)

Context: Acts 20 records the apostle Paul’s farewell speech to the elders of the church in Ephesus. He had spent several years ministering to them, and now he was preparing to leave them. In this verse, Paul acknowledges that he will not see them again.

The Kingdom of God: Throughout his ministry, Paul’s central message was the Kingdom of God. He tirelessly preached about the reign of God in people’s lives, the establishment of God’s rule on earth, and the salvation available through faith in Jesus Christ. The Kingdom of God represents the rule and authority of God in the hearts of believers and the ultimate fulfilment of His purposes in the world.

Paul’s Farewell: Paul was aware that his journey would lead him to Jerusalem, where he would face persecution and hardship. In verse 22, he declares, “And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there.” Despite the trials that awaited him, Paul was committed to fulfilling his mission and spreading the gospel.

Future Separation: In Acts 20:25, Paul acknowledges that he will not see the Ephesian elders again. This recognition reveals the sense of finality in his words, indicating that he had a deep understanding that his ministry in that region was coming to an end. Paul knew that his future path would take him elsewhere, and the Ephesian church would continue its work without his physical presence.

Importance of Relationships: While Paul recognised the inevitable separation, it does not diminish the significance of the relationships he formed during his ministry. He had spent considerable time teaching, mentoring, and nurturing the Ephesian believers. His farewell speech in Acts 20 expresses his love, care, and concern for them. This reminds us of the importance of investing in relationships and valuing the people God brings into our lives.

Perseverance and Commitment: Paul’s resolve to preach the Kingdom of God remained steadfast until the end. Despite the trials and uncertainties that lay ahead, he remained dedicated to fulfilling his God‑given mission. His example encourages us to remain committed to sharing the gospel, even in the face of challenges or personal sacrifices.
