Acts 26:21

For these causes the Iewes caught mee in the Temple, and went about to kill me. Acts 26:21 (KJV)

The book of Acts, traditionally ascribed to Luke, records the early history of the Christian church with a particular focus on the ministry of the Apostle Paul. In chapter 26 Paul stands before King Agrippa, giving a detailed defense of his life and mission.

Paul explains that the Jews seized him in the temple. This incident is connected to the earlier accusation that he had brought Gentiles into the holy place—a practice considered a defilement under Jewish custom (see Acts 21:27‑30). His presence in the temple provoked fierce opposition and ultimately led to his detention.

The Jewish leaders were enraged by Paul’s teaching about Jesus Christ and his inclusion of the Gentiles in the message of salvation. Their hostility escalated to attempts on his life, prompting the Roman authorities to intervene and imprison him.

Despite the threats to his life, Paul remained faithful to his calling. He continued to proclaim the gospel with boldness, demonstrating resilience and determination to fulfill his mission even amid persecution and imminent danger.

Lessons for Christians emerge from this account:

  • a. Perseverance – Paul’s example encourages believers to persist in faith and mission when faced with opposition or danger.
  • b. Courage – His boldness in the face of threats inspires believers to be courageous, trusting in God’s strength and protection.
  • c. Trust in God’s Providence – Throughout his hardships, Paul trusted in God’s sovereignty, reminding believers to rely on divine guidance and protection in all circumstances.

Application: Believers today may encounter various forms of opposition or hostility when living out their faith and sharing the gospel. Acts 26:21 reminds us to stand firm in our convictions, trust in God’s providence, and continue spreading the message of Christ despite adversity.
