Hauing therefore obteined helpe of God, I continue vnto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things then those which the Prophets and Moses did say should come: Acts 26:22 (KJV)

Historical Context: Acts 26:22 is part of a speech given by the Apostle Paul before King Agrippa and other prominent individuals. Paul was defending himself against accusations brought forth by the Jews, who claimed he had violated Jewish laws, preached heretical teachings, was a trouble‑maker, and a leader of the sect of the Nazarenes. In this speech Paul also recounts his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus and the subsequent transformation of his life.

Obtaining Help from God: Paul begins by acknowledging that he has obtained help from God. This highlights an important aspect of Paul’s ministry, recognizing that his effectiveness and endurance were not solely due to his own abilities but were a result of God’s empowering presence. It emphasizes the significance of relying on God’s strength and guidance in fulfilling our calling and purpose.

Continuing to Witness: Paul states that, with God’s help, he has continued his ministry until that day. Despite facing numerous challenges, persecutions, and imprisonments, Paul remained faithful to his calling to bear witness to the gospel. This demonstrates Paul’s unwavering commitment and dedication to sharing the message of Jesus Christ and serves as an encouragement for believers to persevere in their own witness for Christ, even in the face of adversity.

Witnessing to All: Paul emphasizes that his witness is not restricted to a particular group of people. He testifies to both small and great, meaning he proclaims the gospel to people of all social strata and backgrounds. Paul’s ministry was not limited to a select few but encompassed a broad range of individuals, demonstrating the universality of the gospel and its message of salvation for all people.

Consistency with the Prophets and Moses: Paul asserts that his message aligns with the prophecies of the Old Testament. He affirms that he is not preaching anything contrary to what the prophets and Moses had foretold would come to pass. This highlights the continuity between the Old Testament scriptures and the teachings of Jesus and the apostles, emphasizing that the message of salvation proclaimed by Paul is firmly rooted in the promises and revelations of God throughout history.

Overall, Acts 26:22 showcases Paul’s reliance on God, his commitment to witnessing, and the consistency of his message with the Old Testament prophecies. It encourages believers to trust in God’s help, persevere in their witness, and align their teachings with the timeless truths of Scripture.
