Yea and all the Prophets from Samuel, and those that follow after, as many as haue spoken, haue likewise foretold of these dayes. Acts 3:24 (KJV)

Peter delivered this declaration after he and John healed a lame man at the temple gate called Beautiful. The miracle gathered a crowd, and Peter seized the moment to explain the deeper significance of what had just occurred.

The Role of the Prophets: In this verse Peter emphasizes that the prophets who came before, beginning with Samuel and continuing throughout the Old Testament, foretold the days of Christ’s coming and the fulfillment of God’s plan of salvation. These prophets were God’s messengers, sharing divine revelations and predictions that pointed toward the Messiah.

Samuel and the Prophets: Samuel stands out as a prominent figure who anointed Israel’s first two kings, Saul and David, and helped transition the nation from the period of judges to the era of monarchy. His ministry exemplifies the pivotal role the prophets played in shaping Israel’s history and preparing the people for the promised Messiah.

The Fulfillment of Prophecy: Peter asserts that the present days—the early church era and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit—are the very fulfillment of what the prophets had spoken about. The birth, life, death, resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the subsequent growth of the church are all part of the redemptive plan revealed through the prophetic witness.

Recognising the Promised Messiah: Peter’s message aimed to help his Jewish listeners understand that Jesus is the long‑awaited Messiah foretold by the prophets. The healings and miracles performed by the apostles serve as signs confirming that Jesus is indeed the fulfillment of those ancient predictions.

Application to Believers: As believers today, Acts 3:24 reminds us of the continuity of God’s plan throughout history. The Old Testament prophecies find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ and the establishment of the church, encouraging us to study those prophecies as a foundation for our faith.

The Authority of Scripture: This passage underscores the reliability and authority of Scripture. It affirms that the prophets spoke under divine inspiration, accurately foretelling future events, thereby strengthening our confidence in the Bible as the Word of God that guides our lives and reveals His redemptive purpose.
