Acts 3:23

Posted on 18 May at 14:35
Listen to this article

“For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.”

Context:Acts 3:22-23 presents a speech by the apostle Peter, addressing a crowd of people in Jerusalem following the miraculous healing of a man who had been lame from birth. In this speech, Peter quotes from the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy (Deuteronomy 18:15), where Moses prophesied about a future prophet whom God would raise up.

Peter emphasizes that Jesus Christ is the fulfilment of this prophecy. He declares that Jesus is the prophet who was foretold by Moses, and that the people should listen to Him and obey His teachings. Peter goes on to warn that those who do not heed the words of this prophet will face destruction.

This passage highlights the authority and significance of Jesus as the ultimate spokesman for God. It establishes Jesus as the promised prophet, greater than Moses, and calls for the acceptance of His teachings. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences of rejecting Jesus and His message.

Overall, Acts 3:22-23 reinforces the theme of Jesus’ divine authority and the importance of heeding His words for salvation.
