Acts 6:8

Posted on 18 May at 14:35

“And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.”

Context: Acts 6:8 is a verse from the Book of Acts in the New Testament. It occurs after the appointment of the seven deacons, including Stephen, to assist with the distribution of food to the widows in the early Christian community. This verse marks the beginning of Stephen’s ministry and highlights his faith, power, and the miraculous works he performed.

Stephen’s Character: Acts 6:8 describes Stephen as a man “full of faith and power.” This suggests that he possessed a deep, unwavering trust in God and was empowered by the Holy Spirit. Stephen’s faith and the power of the Holy Spirit within him enabled him to do great wonders and miracles among the people.

Miraculous Works: The verse states that Stephen performed “great wonders and miracles among the people.” These miracles were signs and displays of God’s power, confirming the truth of the Gospel message. Through Stephen’s ministry, God worked extraordinary acts that captured the attention of those around him and testified to the authority and presence of God.

Spiritual Lessons:

  • Faith and Power: Stephen’s example teaches us the importance of having a vibrant faith and relying on the power of the Holy Spirit. When we trust God wholeheartedly and yield ourselves to His Spirit, we become vessels through which God can work miracles and wonders in the lives of others.
  • God’s Empowerment: Stephen’s ministry reminds us that God equips and empowers His servants to fulfill His purposes. The same power that enabled Stephen to perform miracles is available to believers today through the indwelling Holy Spirit. We should seek to cultivate a deep relationship with God and yield to His guidance, allowing Him to work through us.

Application: Acts 6:8 challenges us to examine our own faith and reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit. Are we fully surrendered to God, allowing Him to work through us? Do we believe that God can perform miracles and wonders in and through our lives? Let us seek a deeper faith, a greater dependence on the Holy Spirit, and a willingness to be used by God to bring about His miraculous works in the world.
