Acts 7:31

When Moses saw it, he wondred at the sight: and as he drew neere to behold it, the voyce of the Lord came vnto him, Acts 7:31 (KJV)

In Acts 7, Stephen, one of the early disciples of Jesus, was speaking before the council of Jewish leaders, defending his faith and recounting the history of the Israelites. In his speech he highlights the encounters of Moses with God and the significance of those events in God’s plan for the nation of Israel.

These verses describe Moses’ reaction when he encountered the burning bush in the wilderness. Moses saw an extraordinary sight—the bush was burning, but it was not consumed by the fire. This miraculous phenomenon caught his attention, and he wondered at the sight. As he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him, revealing God’s presence and initiating a conversation.

The voice of the Lord coming from the burning bush signifies direct communication with Moses, a chosen servant. Throughout the Bible, God communicates through various means, including audible voices, as seen here. The voice of the Lord speaking to Moses signifies God’s direct communication with His chosen servant and a powerful sign of His presence and authority.

These verses highlight the pivotal moment when God revealed Himself to Moses and commissioned him for a significant role in the history of Israel. Through this encounter, Moses received divine instructions to lead the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt and into the Promised Land. It marked the beginning of a remarkable journey of faith, deliverance, and the establishment of the Mosaic covenant.
