Daniel 12:9

Posted on 18 May at 11:27

And he said, Goe thy way, Daniel: for the wordes are closed vp and sealed till the time of the end. Daniel 12:9 (KJV)

To understand the significance of Daniel 12:9, it is essential to consider its context. The book of Daniel contains prophetic visions and messages revealed to the prophet Daniel. In this chapter Daniel receives a vision concerning the end times and the resurrection of the dead, and the verse is part of the response to Daniel’s inquiries about that vision.

The book of Daniel often uses symbolic language, and this verse is no exception. The phrase “the words are closed up and sealed” suggests that the meaning and understanding of the prophecies were not immediately accessible to Daniel or his contemporaries. The message was hidden until a specific future time.

The verse states that the words of the prophecy will be closed up and sealed “till the time of the end.” This indicates that the full understanding of these prophecies would be made known at a later period, likely closer to the fulfillment of the events themselves. The “time of the end” refers to the period leading up to the ultimate fulfillment of God’s plan for humanity.

This passage emphasizes God’s sovereignty over the revelation of His plans and the timing of their understanding. Although the message was delivered through an angel, it originates from God, who chose to reveal the prophecies to Daniel while making clear that their complete comprehension would come at a later time. It demonstrates that God controls the unveiling of His purposes and will reveal them according to His divine timing.

While Daniel 12:9 specifically addresses the prophecies contained within the book of Daniel, there are broader lessons for believers. It reminds us that God’s plans are often veiled, and we may not fully understand them in the present. Yet we can trust in God’s perfect timing and sovereignty, seeking to grow in knowledge and understanding of Scripture, knowing that some aspects may become clearer as we move closer to the fulfillment of God’s ultimate plan.

In conclusion, Daniel 12:9 highlights the sealing of the prophecies until the time of the end. It underscores the importance of God’s timing in the revelation of His plans and calls us to trust Him even when we do not fully comprehend His purposes.
