Daniel 6:10

Posted on 18 May at 14:57
Listen to this article

“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.”

Context:The book of Daniel recounts the story of Daniel, a faithful servant of God who was taken captive to Babylon. In this particular chapter, Daniel had risen to a position of high authority in the kingdom of Darius the Mede. However, some of the officials became jealous of Daniel and devised a plan to trap him. They convinced the king to issue a decree forbidding anyone from praying to any god or man except the king for a period of thirty days.

Daniel’s Response:When Daniel heard about the decree, he did not panic or compromise his faith. Instead, he continued to faithfully worship and pray to God as he had done before. He went to his house, opened the windows facing Jerusalem (the direction of the temple), and kneeled down to pray three times a day, just as he had always done. This act of prayer and giving thanks demonstrated his unwavering devotion to God, even in the face of opposition and potential consequences.

Perseverance in Prayer:Daniel’s response teaches us the importance of perseverance in prayer. Despite the new law that threatened severe punishment for disobedience, Daniel did not allow fear or intimidation to hinder his relationship with God. He understood the significance of seeking God’s guidance, strength, and wisdom through prayer, and he remained faithful to this practice. Daniel’s commitment to prayer serves as an example for us to prioritize and maintain regular communion with God, regardless of external circumstances.

Trusting God’s Sovereignty:Daniel’s actions also reveal his unwavering trust in God’s sovereignty. Even though the decree had been signed and seemingly unchangeable, Daniel continued to pray, fully aware of the potential consequences. His trust in God was stronger than his fear of man. Daniel knew that God was in control, and he believed that obeying God was more important than complying with human laws. As followers of Christ, we are also called to trust in God’s sovereignty, recognizing that His will and purpose supersede any worldly opposition we may face.

Application:The story of Daniel and his unwavering commitment to prayer challenges us to evaluate our own prayer lives. Do we prioritize regular communication with God, seeking His guidance, and expressing our gratitude? Are we willing to persevere in prayer, even when faced with opposition or challenging circumstances? Let us remember that prayer is a powerful tool, and it deepens our relationship with God, strengthens our faith, and aligns us with His will.

  • In conclusion:Daniel 6:10 showcases Daniel’s faithful response to the king’s decree. He continued to pray and give thanks to God, displaying perseverance, trust in God’s sovereignty, and an unwavering commitment to his faith. May we, too, be inspired to cultivate a steadfast prayer life and trust in God’s ultimate authority, regardless of the challenges we may encounter.
