Daniel 6:27

“He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”

This verse is found at the conclusion of the well-known story of Daniel in the lions’ den. The entire chapter of Daniel 6 narrates the account of Daniel being thrown into a den of lions due to a decree issued by King Darius, who was deceived by his administrators and officials.

Daniel was a man of faith and commitment to God, and despite the decree, he continued to pray three times a day, as he had always done. His adversaries sought to find some fault in him to use against him, but they couldn’t find anything. As a result, they convinced the king to establish a decree that anyone who prayed to any god or man besides the king would be thrown into the lions’ den.

Daniel, undeterred by the decree, continued his faithful practice of prayer. When his adversaries saw him praying, they reported him to the king, who reluctantly ordered Daniel to be cast into the lions’ den. The king, who favored Daniel and regretted the situation, said to him, “Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee” (Daniel 6:16, KJV).

After Daniel spent the night in the lions’ den, King Darius rushed to the den early in the morning, anxious about Daniel’s well-being. To his great joy and amazement, he found Daniel unharmed. This is where our verse, Daniel 6:27, comes into play.

In this verse, King Darius acknowledges the power and authority of Daniel’s God. He states that God “delivereth and rescueth,” emphasizing that God is able to save and deliver His faithful servants from harm and danger. The king also acknowledges that God works “signs and wonders in heaven and in earth.” This refers to the miraculous intervention and divine manifestations that God performs both in the celestial realms and on Earth. The deliverance of Daniel from the power of the lions was indeed a remarkable sign and wonder that displayed God’s power and faithfulness.

The story of Daniel in the lions’ den is not only a testament to Daniel’s unwavering faith, but also a powerful demonstration of God’s faithfulness and protection towards His people. It teaches us that when we remain steadfast and committed to God, even in the face of adversity or opposition, He is able to deliver and rescue us from any situation.

Furthermore, this story foreshadows the ultimate deliverance and rescue that God provides through Jesus Christ. Just as God delivered Daniel from the power of the lions, He delivers and rescues us from the power of sin and death through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. This verse, along with the entire story of Daniel, serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty, His ability to work miracles, and His faithfulness to those who trust in Him.

In summary, Daniel 6:27 highlights the power, deliverance, and miraculous works of God in response to Daniel’s faithfulness. It is a testament to God’s ability to rescue His people and work signs and wonders both in heaven and on earth.
