Daniel 7:11
I beheld then, because of the voice of the great words which the horne spake: I beheld euen till the beast was slaine, and his body destroyed, and giuen to the burning flame. Daniel 7:11 (KJV)
The book of Daniel is a prophetic book written by the prophet Daniel during the Babylonian exile. Daniel received visions and dreams from God revealing future events and the rise and fall of kingdoms. In this chapter Daniel receives a vision of four beasts representing four successive world empires.
In Daniel’s vision four beasts emerge from the sea, each symbolizing a different kingdom. The fourth beast is described as exceedingly dreadful with ten horns, and among these a little horn arises, representing a powerful and arrogant ruler who opposes God and persecutes His people.
Verse 11 records Daniel’s observation of this ruler’s judgment. The phrase “voice of the great words” refers to the blasphemous speech of the little horn, which exalts itself against God and boasts of its power. The judgment of this arrogant ruler is detailed in Daniel 7:21‑27, and Daniel observes the destruction of the beast.
The beast in this context represents both the arrogant ruler and the oppressive kingdom he embodies. The judgment signifies the downfall and destruction of this kingdom. The beast being slain and its body destroyed indicates its ultimate defeat and the end of its oppressive reign. The phrase “given to the burning flame” symbolizes complete annihilation, with fire representing divine judgment and purification throughout Scripture, portraying the severe judgment and the utter end of the beast’s power.
As believers this passage affirms God’s sovereignty over all earthly kingdoms and reminds us that no matter how powerful or arrogant human rulers may become, their dominion is temporary and they will be held accountable before God. It encourages faithfulness and steadfastness in the face of opposition and persecution, urging us to remain faithful and stand firm, knowing that God will ultimately bring justice and judgment upon those who oppose Him.
